"It's a Wonderful Life"

Hi All,

My wife and I just watched the 1946 movie, "It's a Wonderful Life", with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. This is a great Christmas themed movie that has a bit of an alternative reality theme to it. Part of the theme has to do with what would life here on earth have been like, if "George Bailey", the main character, (Jimmy Stewart) had never been born. While watching it tonight, I caught something interesting that I never noticed before.

In this movie, there's a scene where it is Christmas Eve and the Bank Examiner is there in New Bedford, New York, to look at the Building and Loans, financial records. The purpose of this examination is to make sure that there's no funny business going on in the Building and Loans, financial records.

In this scene, this Bank Examiner tells George Bailey that it's Christmas Eve and he wants to get done by tonight so that he (the Bank Examiner) can go home to his family in Elmira.

Here's a movie that has a theme that has to do with an alternate reality and one of the characters in the movie lives in Elmira, New York. Can you think of anyone else who talked about alternate realities, who lived in Elmira, New York?   

Oh boy. I saw the title of this post earlier today and then when I went on my daily walk I decided it was probably time for me to see this movie. I had a neighbor who watched it every Christmas. It was her favorite movie.

OK, it IS time for me to see it. Really? Elmira? Wow.

Just the part about finance and "he can go home to his family" made me think about A Christmas Carol. I have to admit I've become a bit of a Scrooge myself over the years, a result of personal experiences around the holidays (deaths), a lack of religion and an adversity to commercialism.

I've decided I will spend Christmas day cooking a duck and other yummy foods, watching this movie, and detaching myself from my usual responsibilities.

First and foremost, be sure to take care of yourself first.

It is a good movie, but I don't have many of the Christmas hang-ups that I use to have.

It's OK if its not for you. I don't think I'll ever be in a spot where I would consciously consider reading "The Course in Miracles" for example, and that's OK.

Either way, enjoy the duck and yummies.
