Title: help locating Jane comment about Seth
Post by: chasman on November 05, 2021, 09:03:50 PM
would anyone please tell me if they know where, and in what book,
Jane said something like (as best I can remember it):

I'm reasonably intelligent and a decent conversationalist,
but I don't have the knowledge and intelligence that Seth has.
I wish I could take credit for all that he says.
but I can't.

I've looked at the intro's to NOPR and SS, and searched at Findingseth.com.

thanks for any help,
Charlie

Charles, thanks for the interesting question. I don't have the answer, but there is a reference to Seth's higher intelligence in "The God of Jane". It is in the following statement made by a sceptical scientist named Dr.Camper:

QuoteWhatever the source of the materials, and I am still inclined to take the parsimonious view that while the source is internal to and not external to Ms. Roberts, the ideas can be valid. However, the paranormal aspect of these conjectures is strictly surrounding the question of source. If the ideas put forth by 'Seth' prove correct, then the genius present may simply be that of Ms. Roberts. In fact, to the degree that the Seth ideas have merit, they may in fact be largely shut off from serious consideration by specialists because they are allegedly from a paranormal source. In fact, a prima facie reason to be suspicious of the higher intelligence of Seth is the very fact that he would seek to put forward his messages in this fashion instead of developing a cover story which would make it easier to take the messages seriously by skeptical scientists. After all, there is no obvious reason why Seth could not dictate articles to be published in the science journals which review manuscripts blind (that is, without author designation).

I couldn't remember her saying that myself, but if anything it would be in the introduction of one of the earlier books. I'll keep thinking on it.

BTW that Dr. Camper is an interesting character. Jane sure had a lot to say about him in God of Jane, she was not happy about what he wrote. The chapter title is "A Scientific Put-down and a Psychic Declaration of Independence." His real name is Daryl Bem, and he's 83 now. He's a social psychologist and professor emeritus at Cornell. One of his research projects has been in psi phenomena. His letter (Sena's quote) was written in November 1979 and sent to Jane by a Seth fan who mentioned Jane/Seth to Bem. Bem mentions in the letter that he'd read very little of Seth. "From what I have read allegedly from Seth (and I have not read that much), there is little remarkable about it that I could not imagine simply coming from Ms. Roberts' unconscious." He sent another psychology professor (Dr. LeRoy Guy, pseudonym) to Jane and Rob's house and they had a Seth session (888 12/10/79 DEVF1).

I thought Bem's dismissal of Seth for not dictating articles for scientific journals was arrogant. Dr. Bem has published papers on ESP and time-reversed causality and they have been deeply criticized because of his questionable research practices.  ;)

I would think that a science journal article would start with a hypothesis and then proceed to provide scientific evidence for or against that hypothesis. How on earth would Seth be able to do that?   ???
