Question on Suggestions

Hi everyone!

I have a question on suggestions before going to sleep. The ones to remember my dreams seem to be working nicely.
But when I give a suggestion to wake up before certain time AND to remember a dream or have a lucid dream - only one works.

I do wake up at/before required time. But without remembering any dreams - lucid or otherwise. Should I just keep trying and be patient?

What's your experience?

Thanks!

Hi Marianna,

I've noticed that when I set my alarm clock for 5 am, during the weekdays, often come Saturday morning, I seem to wake up at 5 am, even when I don't want to.  This might be a way that people could train themselves to wake up at a certain time in the morning.

I've also noticed that when I wake up in the morning, if I stay in bed for a few minutes and keep myself in a relaxed state, both physically and mentally, I tend to have better dream recall, than I do when I jump right up and start the day's activities.

There have been times in my life where I seem to have good dream recall on a fairly regular basis and then there have been other times, when I don't seem to recall any of my dreams for several months at a time.

Yes, jbseth, this is what happens to me - sometimes I wake up with a 'clean slate' absolutely, days in a row (I suspect - it is ego's doing. It seems to be a fearful one.) And at other times - the dream 'movie' is right here. As for "trying" - doesn't work for me. It feels like I am looking through thick ice. The dream is on the other side, but it's impossible to get to it.

As for training yourself to get up at certain time - the body does get used to a schedule.

I kept a dream diary next to my bed, and (as painful as it sometimes was) would write down my dreams (even if it was after a 2.00am wake up).

It was an experiment in intention. I had paper and pen ready with purpose.

It really worked for me. On average i had great dream recall three to four times a week. My little exercise book filled up in no time.

I also had some very deep dreams which were extremely emotional.

And one lucid dream.

After a year I stopped and my dream recall went back to where it was before.

Thank you, Len. It's always good to hear about the experience of fellow Sethies (or other explorers) :)

I know this approach works. I put a piece of recycled paper and a pencil on my night stand. Then scribble the basic content in the morning. Later all this goes to the 'dream notebook' with interpretation.

Though I am now somewhat behind in this - having a pile of paper scraps for the previous month.

You are right, with this effort dream recall does get better - and with suggestion before sleep - that I will remember dreams.
