"The mind is androgynous."

Hmmm, I had to think about that.

Is the mind a product of the nonphysical soul, or instead related to the ego, which to me is more couched in the physical? I know Seth said many times that consciousness/the higher self/entity-soul is/are genderless. I can easily accept that. I searched on the Seth search engine and only came up with one quote using the specific word androgynous:

"Much could be written here — volumes, easily. I'll simply add that in religious terms alone Christ can be seen as androgynous, in that he's obviously a symbol of the unification of opposites — whether of the conscious and the unconscious, the feminine and the masculine, this reality and others, the mystical and the "practical," and so forth. And a number of old disciplines thought that before the creation of Eve from his body, Adam, the first, original man, was really male and female."
—UR2 Appendix 21: (For Session 721)

I may be wrong, but I don't think my "mind" is androgynous. Even as a small child, I had what's considered feminine interests and traits. While I'm not a "girly girl" meaning I'm not enamored with pink, have always been a bit of a tomboy and am no stranger to power tools or taking care of my self (no damsel in distress here, ever), my mind doesn't feel androgynous at all.

@Mark M What does this quote mean to you?

"When you turn off what you think of as your conscious mind, then another conscious mind clicks into focus. You have more than one conscious mind"
—ECS1 ESP Class Session, October 14, 1969

During my past-life regressions, I experienced both male and female incarnations. Surely, I can't confirm how accurate my experiences of being a woman were, but they definitely felt different than being a male, especially in mattes of power dealing with the opposite sex.

On the other hand, I don't recall having had dreams as a woman, but it is possible, why not.

Me too, I was wondering why MarkM posted that quote, and why he chose to quote that artist. But, on a second thought I didn't ask, because it sounded like a statement with an agenda made by an artist with an agenda, and I wasn't interested in debating its merits.

I think that male / female differentiation happened only for reproductive reasons.

I don't know if Seth gave a reason for this differentiation, as entering this reality could've probably happened differently than by giving birth to babies, could've been asexual.

"Sex, regardless of all your fleshy tales, is a psychic phenomenon, merely certain qualities which you call male and female. The qualities are real, however, and permeate other planes as well as your own. They are opposites which are nevertheless complementary, and which merge into one. When I say as I have that the overall entity [or whole self] is neither male nor female, and yet refer to [some] entities by definite male names such as "Ruburt" and "Joseph," I merely mean that in the overall essence, the [given] entity identifies itself more with the so-called male characteristics than with the female."
—UR2 Appendix 18: (For Session 711)
Although I don't always write it explicitly, it should be inferred that everything I post is "my belief", "my opinion" on that subject, at that moment.

W/o getting quibbly or hair-splitting about it, I just thought it a handy quote. I like it.

More context:

Carl Jung played a formative role in her thinking, and not through his texts alone: he was also her analyst, as well as a friend of her father. Especially motivated by Jung's belief that everyone has a masculine and a feminine side, she would repeatedly paraphrase him by insisting that "the mind is androgynous!" This was an idea she cited when declining invitations to participate in the women's art movement that began to gain traction in the '60s and '70s. Oppenheim wanted nothing to do with it: it was yet another classification, another form of confinement, that she fiercely resisted. She explicitly refused to be categorized among "Surrealist women," even in art historian Whitney Chadwick's important 1985 book on the subject, Women Artists and the Surrealist Movement.

Oh boy. Lots to read in this thread, but that was something that stopped me in my tracks.

More than one conscious mind. I have to digest that before I can respond.

Yes Seth said we chose and accepted the male/female gender models for this reality for reproductive purposes, which seems to be challenged lately. I've had gay friends throughout my life, friends with transgender children, all kinds of friends. It's all good.

I have had dreams where I was female or male (mostly female) and also impressions of past lives where I was either as well. Then again, I had a dream in my late teens were I was a cougar running through a forest... I had a very clear visual of my legs/paws extended before me, the exhilaration of being in full run. So, for what that all is worth...

this is to be continued.

Seth said our body is composed of all the life on Earth. ALL life.

@Deb So having a dream you were a cougar doesn't actually surprise me.

I have had reincarnation dreams about being men. Always weird lol

There are many differences that we are maturing as an opposite to a male. It is not just to be the incubator. And certainly men are not just sperm banks. And there are different types of women. Like Deb mentioned. As there are men. And together we reproduce. Women can not just have babies without the sperm. You need sperm and you need eggs and a womb. So yes we physically have to procreate. But it is more than that. It is a challenge. We test ourselves. For expansion. What happens if we.......(fill in the blank).  lol

Ah such fun to be had!  Will we get along? Will we communicate? How do the opposites care for each other? How do they differ? How do they relate to one another? How does the portion of the psyche expand that is more "male" when its feminine counterpart is engaged? Does the female outer unite with its male inner? Does the male outer unite with its female inner? What happens? Etc etc

Seth did say life is an orgasm! :p
