• "There is much that you do not know regarding this kind of session, and the means to which it may be put. Ruburt has endeavored to speak to Pete and explain to him how his ability should be used and should not be used."

• "He understands what Ruburt has told him, and I am certain that he will explain it well to you. Briefly however, psychic development should lead to overall personality development. It should not be used in order to make things easier in physical terms, though I understand indeed that this is a temptation, and an understandable one. [...]"

• "Now, the love that binds you all is a close, sometimes open... (words missed again)...that which is too much for him at this time... (and again.)... This sort of session is not primarily to tell you what you should do, Stephen. [...]"

• "Your particular personality is not helped if I should tell you what to do in the specific incidents that are requested. [...]"

• "Stephen, you should try relaxation techniques. [...] You are not, however, using them to capacity now."

• "[...] You must simply take my word for it, that it would be highly disadvantageous to your development if I told you what you should do now, and what steps you should take."

• "[...] There is a tendency, again, to lash out at others, and this should be restrained. Live every day to its fullest, and do not be a slave to your hopes for the future. If you do not learn to enjoy today you will not enjoy the future no matter what it may bring."

• "Now. [...] You have strength and ability that you do not realize you possess, and it will withstand you. You do not have to be afraid of testing yourself against attainable goals. You do not have to look for windfalls."

Although I don't always write it explicitly, it should be inferred that everything I post is "my belief", "my opinion" on that subject, at that moment.

So psychic development is say, oh look I can leave my body. This in turn informs the personality that its existence is not dependent on the body therefore it cares a lot less about providing for the physical self and instead refocuses on helping others say. Would this be and example of psychic development leading personality development? I think this sheds a lot of light for me on why Seth focuses so much on psychic development.

When I have such questions, I often draw an analogy with awake vs dream, where my dream character and perspective correspond to my physically-awake self.

So, thinking in terms of developing my personality when awake, would be analogous to developing my awake-self by doing something in my dream. There are techniques for that like dream incubation, and there are more advanced approaches like dream yoga.

I think that in those quotes Seth points to pursuing the goal of the evolvement of our personality, for example by harmonizing the outer- with the inner-self, by developing our inner-senses, by interpreting the symbolism in the events and situations we experience. He seems to advise against focusing our psychic development toward materializing our physical-reality related desires, as that actually becomes detrimental to our personality's evolvement.

Your example, as I understood it, isn't about the development of your personality, but about showing your awake-self something unexplainable by our current level of science and common-sense, that could also be a product of imagination, or of dreaming in the conventional sense.

inavalan, thanks for highlighting this. How I understand this is that life's difficulties are given to us as learning opportunities. If "psychic development" leads to quick and easy solutions, those learning opportunities could be lost. Once the personality is well developed, psychic development will follow naturally.

Glad you found something that resonated with you.

One thought that came to me from those quotes was that as becoming lucid during our dreams (becoming aware of our awake-self's existence, of its intents and interests), so we could / should become lucid during our awake-state (becoming aware of our inner-self's existence, of its intents and interests). Focusing on materializing our physical desires, as tempting and beneficial may seem to us (to our outer-self), becomes detrimental because it distracts from the whole personality's interest in harmoniously evolving on all its levels, as we aren't much conscious of that.

I don't believe that suffering is needed or beneficial in any way other that signaling us that we think and / or believe wrong in some ways. I think that we should watch for it, and at the first sign of pain or suffering we should intuitively investigate what was the source, and address it.

Seth said "psychic development should lead to overall personality development", which, in my understanding, is a little different from "once the personality is well developed, psychic development will follow naturally". But, I accept that everybody does and should interpret Seth (and everything else) in the best way for themselves, which differs from a person to another.
