An argument could be made that on average women (xX) think differently from men (xY), and in this case a woman is more likely to visualize "boys" and "girls", while to a man "floating" might create immediately a different visualization. It isn't always the case, surely. Telling this joke to a couple of friends, the man didn't get it, but the woman did. It is also true that the woman is a graduate in languages, and the man an engineer.
Well actually I felt a little stupid that I didn't get it right off the bat, especially since the answer was in the question. ::)
