Hi,

What are the chances of getting a dark mode on this forum?

Thanks

Deb

Pretty good. There are several themes that work with this version of Simple Machines. I'll look into it. Hopefully if I add a theme or two, members will have a choice of which theme to use.

I don't want to force everyone to use a particular theme, I actually have vision problems with dark themes and will just dim my screen at night so I don't feel like I'll get a sunburn from white web pages.

I'll get back to you once I've checked it out.

Yeah.  When there are multiple themes available, most forums will allow users to switch back and forth.  It'd be cool.  I'm the opposite.  I stare at blinding white screens all day and I need to get away from it when I can.

I spent most of the day testing out a few themes on my test site. Of the four, two are promising, with just a couple of glitches. Since our version of Simple Machines is a release candidate, I think developers are waiting until the final version before they get busy with new themes. But I can tell there's been a big improvement in the stability of SMF itself. I gave up using themes with the old version because they'd stop working as soon as the forum software was updated.

I have a couple of support questions out for the problems with these two themes, hopefully I will hear back soon. I also found some mods (apps) that would be useful for us. I'll text those out after the themes issue is settled.

I'll post this is two places, hopefully enough people will see it.

We now have a few themes you can choose from to suit your design preferences.

To change your theme, click on your profile at the top left of this page, and select Look and Layout from the dropdown. The first option on that page is Current Theme...  Forum or Board Default [CHANGE].

Click CHANGE and there will be choices. The first two (!) are the same—the Default one (Curve 2) we are using right now. Next comes Lunarfall, a dark theme. The last is SociWT*. Style1 is dark, Style2 is light. You can use the Preview button to see how they'll look. There's not much visible using the Preview, so I've made screen captures and attached them below. Click USE THIS THEME when you've decide what you want and remember to click CHANGE PROFILE to save your changes. You can switch themes whenever you want.

Our mods (apps) appear to be working with all themes at this point. They are the one for videos, the Like emojis, and quick spoilers. I found some mods I wanted to add, but they are not yet compatible with our version of  software.

If you run into any problems, please let me know. Also, I need to redo the graphics for the emojis since I'd originally set them up to work with the light blue background of the default theme and they look pretty ragged against the dark backgrounds.

I'll be keeping the overall forum set to the default, so you won't see your favorite theme until you log in.

*SociWT does not show the News/Useful Links in the header. I have a request out to the theme's author for support, hopefully someone will respond.

I just noticed that on the Lunarfall theme, there's no option for "Logout" in the dropdown. The link is invisible, but it's right next to the last one (compass). If you mouse over it, the link tip will pop up. I'll get another request to the author, should be an easy fix.
