Hi everyone,

This is what my husband showed me on a news portal - and I asked him to give me the whole list, so I could write it down. I am always on the lookout for wild and funny things in life.

Living in Russia, you cannot have as pets the following animals: crocodiles, tarantulas, antelopes, hyenas, sharks, and penguins.

So, if any of your friends have ordered a tarantula as a 'surprise pet' for a partner, or a penguin - for cozy winter nights by the fire, you'll have to let them know, it is against the law.

So... alligators are ok, crocs are not. :) I'm surprised the list is not longer!

There are so many funny laws in effect in this country too and in individual states. One that's enforced to this day prohibits the sale of cars on Sunday. Not just in Colorado either! It makes it harder for people working full-time to find time to buy a car!

I can only presume that this kind of law is driven by religious considerations. I guess Jews, Seventh Day Adventists, and LDS members still get to buy a car on their holy day, though. Whatever happened to separation of church and state?

I don't think we've gotten there yet. But yes, it's a Blue Law, made to encourage Christians to go to church on Sunday. Dealerships are all closed, entrances are blocked. I'm just amazed that laws like this can exist in this day and age. Other religions can do whatever they want when they want to, unless they consider restrictions dictated by their religion (such as Orthodox Jews with their rules of Shabbat). Here's an entire article devoted to whether turning a light on or off during Shabbat is a violation of the Bible. Then there are the Amish and Mennonites...  Many religious "laws" and traditions can be very interesting and it's hard to fathom the reasoning behind some of the them, or how they got started. Fish on Fridays? It's not in the Bible. There supposedly was a bishop centuries ago that owned a fishing fleet, and he wanted to sell more fish. How modern people can still follow these laws without question? That could be an entirely new topic.

There's a seaside town in NJ called Ocean Grove (lots of charming 1800s houses) that prohibited driving on Sunday when I was a kid. They would put up chains across the entrances, so if you wanted to go any where you'd have to move your car out of the lockdown area on Saturday night. It's near Asbury Park. They finally got rid of the law in 1979. https://blogfinger.net/2018/06/09/unchained-memories-opening-the-gates-in-ocean-grove/

Oh, I just had a vision of a few Russian men in a prison mess hall talking. "What are you in for?" "Murder." "Felony theft." "Rape." "Carjacking."  "Ummm... I bought a tarantula."

A good one, black sheep! I know about funny laws. :) This one just seemed such a good source - for jokes and funny stories.
