I was just reading a sample from The Practical Psychic by John Friedlander, that Deb mentioned in another post (but now I can't find it). Turns out he has a new book with a long subtitle: Recentering Seth:
Teachings from a Multidimensional Entity on Living Gracefully and Skillfully in a World You Create But Do Not Control

I think I'm gonna have to get The Practical Psychic pretty soon. The new book won't be out until next year. Has anyone worked on the exercises in that book? He makes it sound doable.

I've been exploring the treasury of knowledge available on this forum. So glad to have discovered it!

Actually I don't remember that, but thanks for the lead on the new book! I did a search here on Friedlander and only this topic came up.

BTW when searching this forum, if you search from the home page search box it will search the entire forum. But if you're on a topic, only the topic will be searched. This software is not perfect, there have been some glitches with the search engine. Hopefully the new version (2.1) will be available at some point soon. Only 10 years in the works...  :o

Update: I just searched through the files I got from Mary, and his name and Practical Psychic books came up on a list of books she wanted to track down. He was one of the class attendees, but I don't think I've heard his name before. I'll get his new book on Seth at some point, so I can add it to my collection.

That title looks promising, Kyle, thanks for posting.  Perhaps the difficulty I'm having formulating my thoughts over in the Health and Healing forum have to do with a failure to find a clean boundary between creating reality and controlling it.

Deb, mystery solved: You posted something in February with a link to a pdf book by Richard Grossinger, and in that book, he mentions John Friedlander and The Practical Psychic. What a tangled web I wove.  8) Perhaps Friedlander was another of Jane's students? Anyway, the new Friedlander book blurb mentions that Richard Grossinger is a contributor. Sounds exciting!

Deb, I'm glad you found that reference because I can't seem to retrace my steps. :-\

Well I really don't recall mentioning his name or his book, so maybe we changed the past, lol. Or it was on a page that had a link to something else that then stone-skipped you to his book.

There is a way to actually see what topics you're following, and also a way to see your own posts list. Both can be accessed by clicking Profile.

Your posts would be under Profile/Profile Info/Show Posts, and topics/boards you're following can be found by clicking Profile/Modify Profile/Notifications. Useful to jog the memory or get a feel for where something may have been posted, preferably something recent (I have 27 pages of topics  ::) ). You should also be able to click on another member's profile and see a list of their posts.

Ah, our posts just "crossed in the mail." OK that makes sense. Yes, Friedlander was one of Jane's students, I think in 1974. I read his bio on Amazon.

Kyle, yes, I downloaded the Richard Grossinger book, "Bottoming Out the Universe: Why There Is Something Rather than Nothing". Here is a quote which refers to Seth:

"When Seth proposed, "You create your own reality," he was
widely misunderstood to have meant that we can control reality, and, if we do it well, we can get
what we want. But we know we can't control reality. What he meant was, "You engage the outside
world because it is you.
"  A little-recognized hinge, at the juncture of cosmography and
epistemology, is: the world is the universe. We know no other, inside looking out or outside looking
in. The Latin word mundus captured this meaning in all its mystery, hope, and homing.
The trick is that existence is not a mere fantasy; it can't be molded or finessed to suit our
desires. The more we try to force events, the further we get from our actual agency. There are no
guarantees or sure paths; entheogens and spiritual retreats provide openings but no warrant. That's
how Creation works; finding its sweet spot is trying to remove a treble-barbed hook while eating a
slice of watermelon or drinking a cold beer.
The hook is self-inflicted and metaphorical, but
sweetness is also a hook, as wind through trees and calls of gulls adorn a planet (or plane) of first
love, a child's loneliness, a midsummer swim, and the loss of a loved one.
To truly bottom out All That Is is to recognize our presence flowing through a palpable but
incomprehensible event and that event."

How I interpret this is that one cannot use brute force to control reality, one needs to find the "sweet spot" where change is possible.

To continue the quote:

"The thoughtform visible through the Hubble telescope as myriad galaxies is being generated
and transmuted this very moment by sentient beings, ourselves included; it is a residue of the
creation and destruction of trillions of tulpas emanating from All That Is at the frequency and
collective intelligence of spirits everywhere.
If the universe were real, it would be exactly the same as it is, so it is real and looks exactly
like this, but in a totally other way. I'll leave Seth 2 the last words because he can bracket this
matter from where he is, and I can't:
[T]his dimension [e.g., source realm] nurses your own world, reaching down into your
system. These realities are still only those at the edge of the one in which you have your present
existence. Far beyond are others, so alien to you that I could not explain them. Yet they are
connected with your own life, and they find expression even within the smallest cells of your flesh.
.
. .
We do not understand the nature of the reality you are creating, even though the seeds were
given to you by us. We respect it and revere it. Do not let the weak sounds of this voice confuse
you. The strength behind it would form the world as you know it and sustain it for centuries. 26
Amen."

Here Grossinger quotes John Friedlander:

"Our soul incarnated as us because of the limitations of being human. These limitations then
provide a very specific context in which we develop stories, and our stories are what the universe
gets out of us.
. . . I have this image of humans going around the universe, stepping up to whatever
kind of beer hall there is, say in the Monadic—or sort of like the bar in Star Wars with creatures
from all those different worlds—and saying, "Do I have a story for you!"And that's a kind of story
that no one other than human beings can tell. And people gather round, "Wow, what an amazing
story you human beings have, full of horrors and wonders!""

Sena, I like the quotes you posted, and I want to get to know both of these authors better. This is an opportunity to see the Seth material from a different angle, which is really helpful to me. I'm currently reading The Practical Psychic, which is co-authored by Cynthia Pearson, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Just a short book, but if you want to buy it, don't get the Amazon version. When I tried that, it sent me only a few pages, not even the free sample but only a couple of write-ups about the authors. How odd! So then I got the Google version and it is complete.

Interesting way of interpreting Seth's words. Sure, we don't have complete control over reality, there's more to consider such as mass reality, the entity, root assumptions.

Thanks for that. I had a hard time understanding why Seth would say over and over you create your own reality, and then tell someone that she was not accepting life on its own terms. At first I saw it as a contradiction, but now it makes more sense to me.

"Life accepted on its own terms will yield secrets of joy and peace and exuberance. You cannot coerce it. You cannot force it and you cannot set conditions."  TES9, session 440

Thank you for the Grossinger quotes. I find his writing a bit difficult to understand, so thanks for the interpretations as well.

Sounds very similar to Neville Goddard, when he says that 'Everyone is you pushed out'. IMHO The Law of Assumption doesn't work the way you control reality. When you see your wish already fulfilled you just give a statement on your conscious world. It's like saying: "The lights are on!" without flipping a switch. And if the lights are already on I don't care who flipped the switch.

You simply can't control any part of your reality. You have your own body and you can form it within its biological limits. But do you really control it? Most of your body functions work without your attention. There are techniques to control your heartbeat. But is there a need for controlling it 24/7 under normal circumstances?

Just my two cents.

Heaven on Earth is a choice you must make, not a place you must find.

Let us not forget weaving in and out of our potential and probable outcomes. Depending on what we focus on in our own world. You get what you focus on there is no other main rule.

It is one reason why he says stay clear of the news and what info you consume. Teaching us to be our own truth and we are our own myth.

You control your own beliefs, perspectives, your focus, emotional expressions, your will, your inner conversations with portions of your personality (those inner voices chattering). You control what you hear and see.

That to me is my discovery of my own conscious contents so when I am looking at something I know that is my consciousness.

What do I want to look at today?
Who do I want to be now?
Where am I missing the mark to get to where I want to be or whom I want to be?
How do I bring "there to here"?
And always am I in control of questioning myself such as, "Is this a true statement?"

Much love,
