Hi Sena,

Ernst Holmes was one of the main teachers back in the day. Louis Hay incorporated many of his main tenets.
If it weren't for Holmes, I'm not sure how much of the new thought movement we would have today.
I've read some of his work, always meant to read more. Now it's just on my growing reading list

T.M., I came across the above quote in "The Divine Matrix" by Gregg Braden. I downloaded one of Ernest Holmes' books, but I am not sure whether I will have the energy to read it!

Hi Sena,

Many authors in that period of time didn't believe in giving answers outright. Instead, they composed a narrative, left clues, in such a way it would lead the reader. It would seperate readers into those who could catch on and those who couldn't. I guess they felt it was a way of guarded sacred knowledge from those who weren't worthy of the knowledge, while guided those who were.
It's a Piscean age thing.

Can't remember if Holmes did that or not. It's been a long time since I've read him.

That quote by Ernest Holmes, "Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker, what he thinks into it.", sounds quite a bit like something Seth might say. I think that Ernest Holmes was a very intuitive man.

I have a couple of his books. One of them, "The Science of Mind", is really quite large. It's on the scale of the Christian Bible. This might be the one, Sena, that you recently downloaded.

Ernest Holms was a "New Thought" writer, speaker and teacher.

He became involved in the creation of a religious organization called, "The Church of Religious Science", which was a "New Thought" church that taught his philosophy and those similar to his.  Sometime around 2010, this organization renamed itself and became "Centers of Spiritual Living". I know a little bit about this, because my wife and I are members of one of these churches that calls itself, "New Thought Center for Spiritual Living".

Most "New Thought" teachers, speakers, and churches ministers teach a philosophy that is very "Seth like" in nature.



By this way, this is how I came to know about "Panentheism". Many "New Thought" speakers and ministers teach a philosophy that is best described as "Panentheism".  I first came across this definition from a book I bought some time ago about New Thought. This book is called, "New Thought, A Practical American Spirituality" by C. Alan Anderson and Deborah G. Whitehouse.

jbseth, yes i did download that, and I skimmed through it. I see Ernest Holmes as a forerunner of Seth.

I got the following information from the "New Thought" that I mentioned in my last post.


As I understand it from this book, Ernest Holms was a student of Emma Curtis Hopkins.

Emma Curtis Hopkins was a spiritual teacher who was originally associated with Mary Baker Eddy (the creator of the "Christian Science" belief system) but she, Emma, broke off from Mary and began teaching her own ideas.

Mary Baker Eddy was healed by a spiritual teacher named Phineas Parker Quimby.

It is believed that Phineas Parker Quimby may have drawn some of his ideas from Emanuel Swedenborg, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Andrew Jackson Davis.



Thus, it appears that Ralph Waldo Emerson, preceded Phineas Parker Quimby, who preceded Mary Baker Eddy, who preceded Emma Curtis Hopkins, who preceded Ernest Holms, who preceded Seth.

Then Seth tells us that Emerson was a "speaker".

I wonder who's next in line after Seth?

Wow, I read the quotes and this guy was amazing, I'll need to look into him a bit more. I'd heard his name before, but Religious Science had a bad rap in the past and so I never looked into it. I tend to avoid churches anyway.

Although, now that I think about it, I think I've been to a church based on Religious Science. A good friend of mine's mother was a member, and so I'd gone with them a few times for holiday services and then eventually my friend's mother's memorial service. I have another friend (Jewish) whose new husband (not Jewish) died in a freak accident, and she could not find a venue that would hold a memorial for him at a reasonable "price" because they were not members anywhere. This church took them in, told them no charge unless they wanted to donate something, and did a wonderful intimate service. https://www.milehichurch.org/

I always enjoyed the mindset and atmosphere there, but am not the type to join things. Not to mention it's almost an hour away from home. They would also have great guest speakers, such as Deepak Chopra, Greg Braden, Brené Brown.

And a big YES to "life is a mirror." If we want to know what our beliefs are about anything, all we need to do is look around us and observe.

I love that quote. I don't know if I had heard it before, but I know that I have said that very thing to others in the past. I thought it was a natural conclusion based on the Seth materials. A great example of that is the concept of projection. We all know how people can perceive faults in others that are actually true of themselves. Whenever I judge another negatively, I look for that characteristic in myself that may be powering that judgment.

Larry, the phenomenon of projection is something that we need to bear in mind in our daily lives. Have you read Gregg Braden? He gives an interesting story from his own life in his book, "The Divine Matrix".

I read the Divine Matrix about 6 years ago, before I had heard of Seth. I am now re-reading it.
