I would like to comment regarding session 185.

As "I" read it, Seth is giving Jane (and Rob), very Personal information.

Seth was responding to Jane's wondering if she had, or could develop healing abilities??  His recommendations were in response to That Particular Inquiry. He also states clearly, "I have taken into consideration your backgrounds and made concessions accordingly." Here he was talking to just them in particular. He is not addressing the general public, as in writing a book.

Seth states we have a "natural protective mechanism, of inner origin, directing and affecting matter. It is a self correcting mechanism. An individual's health is determined by his ability to take advantage or, or to use, this mechanism....When the ego is resilient, this mechanism works well. It is the ego in many cases that clogs the works, so to speak."

He continues: "There are ways this natural ability (healing) can be strengthened, and it may be of benefit that we discuss them. These ways will not only be helpful in facilitating these automatic health correction tendencies, but will also be generally beneficial as far as all inner abilities are concerned."

"They will allow you to increase your clairvoyant and telepathic abilities. They will aid in astral projection training. They will increase your powers of concentration, and will also show themselves in your work."

I feel this section is one of the Most Important sections I discovered recently for myself. I was given almost these exact instructions in my daily journaling with my Inner Wisdom, never having read these words before this week, ever! (Abraham, channeled by Ester Hicks says something a little similar. Drink lots and lots of water, eat simpler, and smaller more frequent meals. )

Seth states: "You will enjoy your meals more and you will savor the individual tastes with more discrimination."

Seth talks a lot about the Ego and addictions in his books. When the Ego is in control and we fall into living from our hypnotized conditioning from childhood and growing up, we are Not living in the Present Moment, period. So "it might be" that Seth was making these suggestions because.... some of Jane and Rob's eating habits were due to prior "conditioning" growing up, and they had "addictions" to certain foods, and perhaps coffee and alcohol?

When we are allowing the foods themselves to dictate what we eat and how much we eat, we are not in conscious control of our bodies and not as Clear a Channel for our wisdom to come through. We are responding unconsciously to these things. "I" feel Seth's comments about Jane's smoking and drinking coffee were more a reflection of his wanting to help her become more "clear in her telepathic  skills and hearing what he wanted to share through her" than they were a condemnation of the smoking or the coffee, because they were addictions.

Seth often shared we are here to Savor and Enjoy life. How many people actually savor foods in their original form? Most people eat these things covered in sauces of one kind or another, or dressings, even today! How many people take "the time" to really taste the food they are eating and appreciate all the delicate flavors which exist in plain vegetables and fruits, for example? He was merely making a suggestion.

If we are created from the same Energy and all One, then it stands to reason, we would feel different eating vegetables and fruits grown in the ground, spending time immersed in Nature, compared to animals, often not raised in loving conditions.  If Jane was a highly sensitive person, she might feel different eating lots of meat? Meat does take longer to digest than fruits and vegetables.

I don't know the make up of her personal body, or Rob's, and what foods might have been easier for her to digest and therefore help her in being a more clear channel. I truly feel Seth always had her Best Interests at heart and he was suggesting things for her to do to develop these healing abilities she asked about. He just added.... they would also aid in many other areas of her life. I do not read here anywhere, Seth making this as a blanket statement for everyone reading his books!

We are each unique. I happen to want to improve my telepathic and clairvoyant skills and was given almost the same exact information never having read it before. I just came across it searching for another Seth quote! I only assume, my body might be similar to Jane's perhaps? Not that everyone wanting to develop these abilities needs to eat this way! I don't happen to drink alcohol, smoke and hate coffee. However, there are foods my Wisdom suggested I stop eating. Not because they were bad, only because they have an addictive affect on me and I eat them unconsciously!

I just read many comments challenging his recommendations and I don't feel he was making them for everyone! I only found out last year that I was a Highly Sensitive Person which is about 15-20% of humans (and the same percentage in totally isolated studies... in animals and insects too!  You can Google... highly sensitive person test. I answered "yes" to all the questions.) I found out things I have tried to change about myself most of my 68 years were like attempting to change my eye color! Among things I am highly sensitive to, are a few foods most people have no challenges with at all! So again, I believe Seth was answering Jane's personal question about healing and not giving broad suggestions to the rest of the world! And I own this being "my Unique take on this Session!  :)

Hi Morgine, welcome to the forum! And thanks for such a thought-provoking post!

Seth certainly does talk about physical health quite a bit, which I attribute to Jane's health issues, but it also tends to be a common topic with a lot of people asking Seth for advice. I think when we started giving away our power to doctors and medicine in general, we as a species started having more health problems and forgot that our bodies can heal themselves.

Seth didn't often give dietary advice, basically saying that it's more important how we feel about what we consume than what we actually consume. Because of that, it has puzzled me when he did actually give some advice on diet. This is his explanation about why eating less meat will increase our "inner abilities" :

"You are bound up in the cycle of earth relationships. The eating of meat without doubt focuses the physical mechanism closely to the physical system."
—TES4 Session 185 September 6, 1965

But fruits, vegetables, water also have consciousness and are a part of the cycle of earth relationships, so why would consuming them be any different other than our own beliefs about how things are grown? The trend with food these days is leaning towards Weston Price, getting back to traditional/nutrient-dense foods and animals raised in more species-appropriate conditions, because the better the animals (and plants) can eat their natural diets and live in favorable conditions, the better their nutritional value. Fact? Fantasy? There is "scientific" proof supporting this. Or is this trend a part of our growth in this reality in order to develop a conscience, morals and empathy? One day we will learn how to directly absorb ambient energy and do away with food. I hope I don't live that long. :)

Does it have more to do with what we believe is good or bad for us to eat? True we are all made of the same energy, but how it's "put together" is personal. Some people have food allergies, they would have to had to choose those conditions for themselves on some level. It seems every day there is some guru who insists something is the new super food and then before you know it, it is 'proven' that it's really bad for you. Our bodies are all unique.

Seth's healing advice was more common and about reinforcing the idea that we control our health and our physical manifestation by our thoughts and beliefs, and illness is a symptom of some sort of inner struggle or imbalance. He was relentlessly trying to drill that concept into our (thick) heads -- we are constantly remaking ourselves into what we think we are, fat or thin, healthy or sick, etc. I remember the first time I read this:

"The breast cancer suggestions associated with self-examinations have caused more cancers than any treatments have cured (most emphatically)."
—NoME Chapter 2: Session 805, May 16, 1977

That really puts things into perspective. I remember Jerry Hicks telling a story about a friend who was focused on preventing and curing prostate cancer, volunteered for some prevention group--I can't remember the exact details. Guess what he ended up with? That right there stops me in my tracks when my mind goes to the darker side, lol.

That's funny that you mention eye color, because both Joe Dispenza and Bruce Lipton also talk about beliefs and how we make ourselves and our reality, and that some people with multiple personality disorder can change eye conditions when they switch personalities. Or one of their personalities will have a serious allergy to something, while others do not.

PS I have to agree with your assessment about Seth's advice here being personally directed towards Jane, which is why they ended up on the cutting room floor for a while. Jane didn't seem to many (if any) blocks in the telepathy side of things. But she certainly did have health problems. There was a special connection between Seth and Jane, he probably knew her better than she consciously knew herself. She and Rob would ask him for personal advice. As did everyone else.

Morgine

Deb,

I agree with most of what you shared.Yet my favorite quote from Seth is at the back of The Nature of Personal Reality and the reason I LOVE Seth so much and... spent years honing my Intuitive Skills. I use them for choosing food at the store, whether to buy a book, take a class, which way to drive home and on and on. To me, it was a "hint" to not take everything he says Verbatim. Even Abe coming through Ester sometimes stops and says he is attempting to find words Ester might be able to use to explain something knowing she cannot really fully grasp what they are attempting to share.

"Do not place the words of gurus, ministers, priests, scientists, psychologists, friends -- or my words -- higher than the feelings of your own being. You can learn much from others, but the deepest knowledge must come from within yourself. Your own consciousness is embarked upon a reality that basically can be experienced by no other, that is unique and untranslatable, with its own meaning, following its own path of becoming. ..... What information and knowledge I have I tried to give your through Ruburt and Joseph, who are parts of me in your space and time. But they are themselves as I am myself."...and he goes on explaining how to develop your own abilities.

I feel this information was "just for them" as my information was just for me. In experimenting for many months, I discovered, when paying more attention, how different foods had very different affects on my physical body. Most people complain about being exhausted after Thanksgiving dinner which is overflowing with "heavy foods" and over eating! :-) I don't know their eating habits. I asked Rick Stack in this week's class, if they followed through with Seth's advice and he didn't know. Again I was only making a guess that it might have been focused on attempting to help them break free of "habitual, addictive" behaviors rather than simply a choice of foods. I don't know. However, I imagine if Seth came through today, the world has evolved a LOT and he might be giving us new advice. Which is why I learned to quiet my mind and listen and receive information specifically for myself. Thanks for the conversation! Love, Morgine

"Do not place the words of gurus, ministers, priests, scientists, psychologists, friends -- or my words -- higher than the feelings of your own being."

Yes, definitely one of my favorite quotes as well, it has come up frequently on this forum. It's what me made trust Seth when I was first introduced to him. We all have inner guidance at our disposal, it's a matter of being aware of that and, like you say, quiet the mind, listen and receive. And trust. Since we are all unique, it would be impossible to give blanket, one size fits all, advice on specifics such as diet. Everything Seth has to say really comes down to "the deepest knowledge must come from within yourself."

Are you enjoying Rick's class? I took it twice, 3-4 years ago, and really got a lot out of it. I'd even consider doing it again, there's always something new to be gleaned from Seth, different levels of understanding. I remember Rick said that Jane and Rob weren't able to really study Seth's materials the way we can, or put it into practice, as they were too busy trying to get the information out to the world.

happilymarried

Beautiful post. I should practice more Intuitive Skills.
Yes, I assume that they didn't really have time to put the materials into practice.
They had done us a great service to have these materials to study.

Thus, when I read someone reviewed the books saying that Jane died because of cancer (?)
I was thinking to myself: it wouldn't make me mistrust these materials because Jane didn't have time to practice.

Jane actually died from complications of severe Rheumatoid arthritis, which she battled since the age of 35. Her mother also had it since the age of 26.

A lot of people question why Jane got sick (just search this forum for "arthritis"), including Jane. Seth tried to help her, even told her she really didn't have it, and there were times she appeared to be getting better.

Jane had a lot of baggage she was dealing with from a horrendous childhood, most likely guilt around her mother's situation and some beliefs ingrained by her religious upbringing that did not serve her. You'll learn a lot about Jane's past if you continue to read the books. So I'm not surprised that Jane had serious health problems, I'm more amazed that she was able to be so productive considering her childhood.

One of my favorite Seth books was written by an ESP class member and friend of Jane and Rob, Susan Watkins. Conversations With Seth. I read it right after I came across the Seth materials because I was not comfortable about the channeling thing. Sue's book is very interesting, informative and gives an insider's view of the Seth phenomenon. Rich Kendall, another class member, also wrote a book The Road to Elmira which is much shorter but a great read.

Deb, that is the official medical diagnosis, but the fact is that Jane's Inner Self chose to die at that particular moment. I know of a case of a 45-year-old person who dropped dead in her bedroom, and no cause of death was found on autopsy.

True. I wonder why she did? Seth had planned on her being around longer. And why suffer so much? She also had osteoporosis so severely towards the end that her bones would just break. It almost feels like she was punishing herself... or a crucifixion of sorts, but being "nailed" to a bed rather than a cross.

I seem to recall her mother telling Jane she hoped Jane would end up like her. And in Jane's personal notes, she often wrote that she thought she was doing it to herself to keep herself humble. She was really afraid of people making her into some sort of god. We'll never know.

Deb, it is very interesting what you note about Jane's "crucifixion":

"Symbolically, however, the crucifixion idea itself embodied deep dilemmas and meanings of the human psyche, and so the Crucifixion per se became a far greater reality than the actual physical events that occurred at the time."
—SS Chapter 22: Session 591, August 11, 1971

As far as I am aware, Seth did not expand on the topic of the "deep dilemmas and meanings of the human psyche". The mind boggles.
